My Generation

This image is generative. It is infused with a fair amount of randomness. Are algorithms involved? That's an interesting question. The answer must be, yes, certainly. An algorithm is a series of prescribed steps. But as I experiment my way into this idiom of generative art,[1] my choice making in code feels more like what one might do when standing before a lump of clay, or a blank sheet of paper, or an easel with tubes of paint. The questions become ones about what might be possible. What if I do this? How would I effect this spacial relationship? Where can randomness be introduced so more variations can be encountered? What will happen if random nature (or an algorithm) takes its course?
